OUR BACKGROUND

Giles Machinery is a family-owned and operated business, servicing the Fleurieu Peninsula and surrounding areas for over 45 years.

Started by Nigel and his wife Judy, the business had humble beginnings down on the shores of Lake Alexandrina at Milang.

Starting out doing mechanical repairs of various nature it wasn’t long before Nigel took on franchises from John Shearer, Horwood Bagshaw and later Ford Tractors. For what was becoming an increasingly growing business due to Nigel’s uncompromising attitude to customer service, it wasn’t long before the business had outgrown its surroundings at Milang.

In 1992 the business moved to where it is located today at Milnes Road, Strathalbyn, where it continues to grow and satisfy our customer’s ever-changing needs. Over the years many more franchises have been added to the ND & JA Giles banner to cater for the diverse needs of the district’s land use. In addition there has been the purchase of land across the road from the main site that is now dedicated to our extensive range of Used machinery.

After working in the business for over 20 years, Nathan Duffield, the son in law of Nigel Giles, and his young family took ownership of the business in 2022. Nigel is still heavily involved with sales however Nathan has taken the reins and is steering the business to further success through his passion and commitment to the industry and business that he is so proudly associated with.

2026 is an exciting start to another chapter of the Giles Machinery story and we are proud and pleased to announce that we have been able to introduce the CASE IH franchise into the business. Key dual brands bring an exciting new stage to the business that will be under pinned by the same long held philosophies the business has always had. Quality Customer Service, empathy and understanding in the support of our customers and their communities.

With land uses throughout the Fleurieu Peninsula, Adelaide Hills and Lower Murray River districts including broadacre, hay, dairy, market gardening, viticulture and horticulture, diversity is at the forefront of everything we do. With the backing and support of all our suppliers and the willingness and work ethics of Nathan & Nigel, and the team at N.D. & J.A. Giles, we believe there is no bridge we wouldn’t cross to satisfy our customers, their needs and our relationship with each other and the land.

Owner

With 20 team members, Nathan will coordinate the Sales, service or general enquiries to meet your specific needs. He is passionate, driven and successful in everything he does. He is a people person, who is generous and empathetic.

Nigel Giles

Sales

With over 45 years of knowledge and experience in the agricultural industry! Nigel is the founder of the business and will be able to help you with anything you require.

Jason Crowe

Sales

Jason, first point of call for new customers. Has a great record based on a commitment for knowledge and an ability to find what you need. Thorough, precise, trustworthy and accommodating, with a great sense of humour, he will make you feel comfortable.

ADMIN

Kim Scott

Admin

Kim is the master of our administrative tasks and has been with us for just under 10 years. She is calm, highly capable, and nothing is too great an inconvenience for her. Kim is also the mum to one of our techs but you wouldn't know it, as she treats everyone with the same respect, integrity and empathy, as if we were family.

Peter Simmons

Admin

Peter makes sure the business keeps in step with the overall growth of the business by taking over anything that keeps the experts away from their front line task. Planning, development, HR, safety and marketing are some of those key components.

Parts

Paul, long time employee right back to the beginnings of the business. If he doesn’t know it, Nigel will. Opens doors to opportunities for customers to fix their issues on a daily basis that others can’t.

Evan McMurtrie

Parts

Evan, Parts Manager and qualified parts interpreter, he will find a way to help or resource what you’re looking for, without fuss. He just gets things done.

Amy Margetts

Parts

Amy does the financial side of parts receivable. She has an eye for detail and is very particular with her work, ensuring things are done the right way, done once and everything is accounted for.

Eric Hodson

Parts

Eric is the first smiling face you will normally see when you walk in the door. He is our front line parts customer service member and he prides himself on his customer relations. Eric has only been in the industry a short while but will ask questions, be polite, and find the answer for you.

Fletcher Duffield

Parts

In the space of three years, Fletcher has mastered almost all the roles within our Parts team. Currently supporting the workshop team, his enthusiasm is contagious. A quick learner and an indispensable member of our team.

Elliot Duffield

Parts

The youngest son of Nathan, our dealer principle and younger brother of Fletcher. Elliott is cutting his teeth in the business as a parts interpreter. A quick learner, good scholar and a true people's person, Elliot will always make you feel important and at ease with whatever situation you find yourself in.

WORKSHOP

Jayde Margetts

Manager

Jayde, is a long term employee who knows our business and what our customers need and use inside and out. Technician by trade, the now manages our workshop team and is your first point of call for any service related issues. If anything is too hard, he is more than happy to get his hands dirty figuring it out and fixing it.

Jonathan Fletcher

Leading Hand

Jonathan, is a fully qualified technician who is fastidious, making sure all the i’s and t’s are crossed. He supervises our apprentices and is a specialist in the electrics and new technologies, of the sophisticated side of new tractors and equipment. Another long-term employee who is well known to all our customers.

Tanya

Workshop

Tanya is the sole female in our workshop team. She manages all our repair order paperwork and is often the first voice you hear when calling through to the workshop.
